https://kiwikidsnews.co.nz/social-media-addiction/
Today we read an article about how much time big kids spend on social media. We had a chat and discovered that there are people in our lives that might have the same problem.
16 kids said Mum spends too much time on a device, 14 say it's Dad and 13 say their big brothers and sisters spend too long on a device.
Here are a few challenging statements from the kids:
"When I talk to them they just say 'Mmmhmm' but they don't really listen."
"They don't move around very much"
"They don't see me do cool stuff like cool handstands"
"They don't have time to play with me"
"They don't really want to talk with me"
Scary isn't it? They don't need fancy trips - get them involved in cooking dinner, go for a walk and talk about the things that you see, read a bedtime story, schedule a 'date night', put your phone down when you talk with them. I think I'm going to be looking at the time my family spend device free, too.

GOOD FRIDAY
Lent/Easter
There are lots of Lenten liturgies and learning this week. It would be a good idea to pack
some Jesus clothes and leave them at school for the week. A large t-shirt and some rope,
a bathrobe, a small towel for a headdress... Just keep it simple. Holy Week is, of course, the
biggest and most special week of our church calendar. Here are the mass times:
Totara team are on camp this week. Manuka team will have loooooots of extra space and we have big plans to use it.

Educa
The Manuka Team is trialling Educa for the school and we need all of our parents to be on board. There are still eight Room 5 kids who are waiting for their families to accept their Educa invitation. I have re-sent invitations to these people - we are looking forward to seeing you online and sharing our work with you.

Room 5 Assembly
Here are a few photos - I'll pop them on educa, with the video, as soon as I get 5 min free.
I was super proud of these kids, on Friday. They helped each other with the words, they looked after each other and encouraged each other. They were all a little nervous but they stuck it out together and they did a great job. Well done, team. you are awesome.

On Friday 9th March we will be having our ‘Bike to School Day’. Mr James, Mrs Nelson, Mrs Cato and Mrs Holmes will meet some children at the bowling club on Lytton Street between 8:10 and 8:20 a.m.
Once assembled and ready with their bikes/scooters and helmets on they will cycle to school. They will be met by Mrs Todd and Mrs Dobson at the Carnot Street gate entrance. The children will be directed to the courts to store their bikes. Parents are welcome (really, really, really welcome) to ride along too!

Topsy-turvy week
It's going to be a little bit topsy-turvy this week but I will ensure that everything runs as seamlessly as possible. The lovely Mrs Kusabs will be teaching on Tuesday, so that I can be released for my team leaders role. This is a normal part of our week and is already running beautifully. I will also be away on Thursday and Friday. Both of my kids are competing at the Pipeband Nationals and I am going to be tied up looking after our Rotorua band and helping out at the events. The fabulous Mrs Diniss will be teaching on Thursday and Friday. She will have copies of my planning, some very detailed instructions, and the support of Mrs Dobson and Mrs Hall, to help things run smoothly.
If you come to look at the bands be sure to look out for me, too - I'll be madly rushing around with my camera so be sure to call out and say hi.
